Urgent reminder for CHSP providers about clients who have not previously been assessed as eligible for CHSP
- From 1 November 2025, the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) will be regulated under the new Aged Care Act (the Act).
- This means all current clients who receive CHSP services must be assessed as eligible for CHSP through an aged care assessment by 31 October 2025 to transition to the Act without disruption.
- The vast majority of CHSP clients will be transitioned under the Act because they have previously been assessed as eligible for CHSP.
- Clients that have had an assessment do not need to take any further action unless their care needs change.
- Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) are requesting that CHSP providers support current CHSP clients who have not had an aged care assessment to request an aged care assessment before the Act commences on 1 November 2025.
- Clients who are waiting for an assessment after 31 October 2025 may be eligible to have their approvals for CHSP backdated to 1 November 2025. However, they must be registered and waiting for an assessment for this to occur.
- Earlier in 2025, DHDA provided guidance to CHSP providers that have historically provided CHSP services to unassessed clients.
- In September 2025, DHDA rolled out a second tranche of communication to all CHSP providers and also CHSP clients.
- These documents are available on the DHDA’s website through these links
- The DHDA is requesting that providers continue to support their unregistered and unassessed clients to become registered and request an aged care assessment.
- This also includes all grandfathered CHSP clients who may have entered CHSP from other aged care programs in the past.
- To apply for an assessment CHSP clients who have not had an aged care assessment should talk to their provider or contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 as soon as possible in the lead up to 1 November 2025.
- Clients can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm (local time) and Saturday 10am to 2pm (local time).

- If clients get an assessment and are assessed as eligible for CHSP by 31 October 2025, their subsidised services will continue without disruption.
