Shared Connections - Connecting Older People to their Community

Benetas is launching a volunteer project called Shared Connections, which aims to enable older people who are, or are at risk of becoming, socially isolated to participate within their local community. The six month research project is based in the Moreland and Darebin areas. Volunteer mentors will assist older people to join facilitated groups and community based activities of their choice (e.g. arts and crafts, cooking , exercise groups).

Over time, as participants build confidence, mentors will withdraw their support enabling the individual to participate independently. The project aims to improve physical, mental and social health of participants, resulting in an overall reduction of social isolation.

This is a great opportunity to participate in an innovative research project that needs the support of our community. Benetas is looking for volunteer mentors in Melbourne.
